Staunton River maintains several wildlife habitat enhancement areas. These areas provide suitable cover and feeding areas for songbirds, deer, turkey, quail and many other species. The park manages these areas carefully and tries to cultivate plants that are native to the area and those that our wildlife like best to eat. Early mornings and late evenings make the best time to come down and see what kind of wildlife can be spotted in the habitat enhancement areas. The Dan and the Staunton Rivers both experience periods where the water level drops excessively. This presents our guests with unique opportunities to observe the wildlife that is so abundant in the park. Tracks and scat abound and the bird sighting opportunities are absolutely endless.

Other Activities At Staunton River State Park: Hiking, Biking, Boating and Water Sports, Camping, Educational Activities, Fishing, Gifts and Shopping, Horseback Riding, Hunting, Picnicking, Swimming, Photography and Canoeing And Kayaking
