Fishing at Staunton River State Park
Buggs Island Lake is famous for the number and size of fish found there. Bass, bluegill, crappie and perch are plentiful. A valid Virginia fishing license is required and can be purchased at the Visitor's Center during regular business hours. Those guests with a North Carolina state fishing license can use the NC license to fish in the lake as part of a reciprocal agreement between Virginia and North Carolina. See the Visitor's Center for important information about boundaries in the Dan and Staunton Rivers if you are using a NC license. Annual boat launch passports are available by calling 1-800-933-PARK.
