Canoeing And Kayaking at Staunton River State Park

There is a boat launch available in the park. The launch is on the Dan River and there is access from this launch to Buggs Island Lake. There are certain times during the year when the boat launch facilities many not be accessible. If your stay depends on your ability to launch a boat, you need to check with the park prior to making your reservation. You can check the water level at www.kerrlake.com. If the water level is below 297 feet, you should call the park for instructions. The boat launch becomes inaccessible to all but car top launch equipment at 292 feet. There are also two smaller launches that may not be accessible to everyone with a boat. Buggs Island Lake permits motorized and non-motorized boats. (new paragraph) There are no boat rentals in the park, but River Traders, located just outside of the park entrance, rents canoes, kayaks, jon boats, and pontoon boats.
