The river is fairly shallow but is excellent for canoing and kayaking. There are no major rapids here (nothing above class 2 typically, unless there is very heavy rain). There are several canoe rental/outdoor adventure facilities located just outside of the park near Bentonville. Those launching their own canoes/kayaks or those wishing to access the park via water may use one of several launches in the park. There are river access points on the River Trail, where the River Trail meets the Paw Paw Trail, from the picnic area, and from the camping area, and near the Bluebird Trail. Boaters are reminded to be safe, wear life jackets, and obey all Virginia boating laws.
