The Shenandoah River is a popular destination for boating. The park has 5.6 miles of river frontage, with many areas available for launching canoes, kayaks and tubes. The river is fairly shallow and there are no major rapids here (nothing above class 2 typically, unless there is very heavy rain). The park does not offer boat rentals, but there are several canoe rental/outdoor adventure facilities in the area. In addition, guided, weekday morning kayak trips (using park kayaks) are available from April through October. Visitors may check our website or call the visitor center for more information. Those launching their own vessels may use one of several access points in the park, including the main canoe launch in the picnic area. Other entry points are available in the primitive campground and on the Bluebell trail near the RV campground. Boaters are reminded to be safe, wear life jackets, and obey all Virginia boating laws.
