Panning for gold, pontoon boat tours, nature programs, gold mine tours. The Goodwin Gold Mine Tour is offered on summer weekends only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Included are a drive to the mine and a walking tour of the 1880s mine site, as well as plenty of information about how the mine operated and the history of gold mining in Virginia. The canoe tour is a 45-minute ride along park shoreline during which participants enjoy the scenery and learn about local history. It's a good idea to call the park office prior to you weekend visit to confirm program offerings.

Twin Lakes State Park Hosts Lecture Series for Black History Month Zoe Rogers, Visitor Services Specialist On Saturday, February 11, 2012 Twin Lakes State Park will host a lecture series on the African-American Civilian Conservation Corps and African-American soldiers during the American Civil War.	Project WET for Teachers Sarah Lankford Virginia State Parks and Project WET offering Professional Development Workshop for Teachers. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at James River State Park's Visitor Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Join the Friends of Shenandoah River State Park Jaimie Lomasney, Visitor Services Specialist Become a member of the Friends of Shenandoah River State Park. Attend the next meeting on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. with a winter walk at Shenandoah River State Park with the group.	Sailor’s Creek Hosts American Civil War-era Valentine Workshop Sam Wilson, Jr., Chief Ranger for Interpretation Join us on Saturday, February 11, 2012 Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park will host a workshop on American Civil War-era Valentines.

"The Wildlife Management areas are managed by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. What you heard is incorrect. Here is info about the change: Facility Use Permit Effective January 1, 2012, a Facility Use Permit will be required when using any Department-owned Wildlife Management Area or Fishing Lake. Such permit shall not be required for any person holding a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license or a current certificate of boat registration issued by the Department or persons…"

"I was there too with my sister and one of her friends from work. It was a great day. We walked the trail and the hills were quite intense. But we all finished an it was really fun for the first one. "
