Educational Activities at Chippokes Plantation State Park

This area is rich in history as it has been inhabited by settlers and farmed since 1619. Visitors will learn about the Jones family who built the a mansion in the 1850s and the Stewarts who lived there throughout the 20th century and ended up donating this plantation to the state. A forestry museum and sawmill teaches visitors about the importance of timber and clearing the land. Visitors can also learn about the parks history from millions of years before people actually lived there. Many fossilized shells can be seen along the beach. Visit the Park Office/Visitor Center for a current schedule of interpretive programs. A 10 minute park orientation video and other park related videos may be viewed while at the Park Office/Visitor Center.
