The parks main picnic area is accessible from the main park road. It has several picnic tables and outdoor grills, restrooms, vending machines, a playground, and two picnic shelters, the Rappahannock shelter and the William L. Humphreys Memorial Shelter. These simple shelters can be reserved and hold about 50 people. Water fountains are located nearby. The Humphreys shelter has a large sized grill. In the summer the park puts up a temporary tent and stage for its music by the river summer program. Groups may rent out these tents for use in the park for other events that they wish to hold. Another picnic shelter is located by the Deep Creek motorboat launch. This shelter is screened to keep the bugs out, has electricity, lighting, ceiling fans, water, and is located close to restrooms. This shelter holds just under 50 people.
