Times have really changed. People are tattooing company logos on their bodies, or getting their hair cut to reveal the logo in their hair. We didn’t go that far, but we did transform our regular old cars into pieces of art showing iconic images of our state parks.
My vehicle shows an image of one our Virginia State Park cabins
Coming from New York City where companies wrap everything from the sides of buildings to entire buses and taxis, wrapping vehicles didn’t seem too farfetched to me. But when presented with the idea from one of the district managers to wrap our state vehicles, I doubted we would ever be given the okay to make this happen.
I was wrong. Little did I know, with the right approvals, we would be on our way to having some pretty cool cars.

You see the Virginia State Parks' marketing team are in their cars a LOT. They travel from park to park and across the state to develop relationships within our communities, for meetings, events, and to manage our marketing duties at the parks. They also enjoy meeting all of you!
So being able to show images of the many things Virginia State Parks offer like cabins, camping, water activities, trails, beaches, lakes and rivers, share our website address and phone number, and encourage people to “Follow me to a Virginia State Park” on Facebook and Twitter just by driving to and from work, just makes good sense.

We launched our newly wrapped vehicles in the middle of July by driving around Richmond giving away goodies to people we saw. Our first stop was the Science Museum. Then, we hit the American Idol auditions where hundreds of hopefuls were lined up.

Our last stop was to the Virginia Tourism office where we played music from our cars, interacted with our friends at Tourism who support us all year round, and helped make a hot summer day a little cooler by giving away ice cream sandwiches. This, as you can imagine, was a HUGE hit.

And if we are parked and safely off the road, and you get to meet one of us, we may just have a Virginia State Parks' goody to give you as a little "thank you" for continuing to love Virginia State Parks as much as we do.
I hope to see you at one of the Virginia State Parks soon, and drive safely!
Until next time…
