Buzz on Over to Sky Meadows State Park

On Aug. 16, 2014 Buzz on over to Sky Meadows State Park for National Honey Bee Day!  Join the Beekeepers of Northern Shenandoah as they perform our annual honey extraction from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in recognition of National Honey Bee Day

Learn how important beekeeping is!Learn how important beekeeping is

Enjoy displays about the Art of Apiculture (beekeeping) and honey bees. Other activities include honey tasting, Be a Bee program, hearth cooking demonstration, and candle making.

Honey Extraction; watch as volunteers from the Beekeepers of Northern Shenandoah remove the honey from our hive boxes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cooking with Honey: follow your nose to the log kitchen to see what’s cooking over the hearth.  Visit with our costumed interpreter and watch as she prepares a variety of tasty treats using nature’s sweetener from noon to 4 p.m.

Candle Making program; discover how Colonial settlers lit their homes before electricity.  Join a ranger for a discussion of the tools and techniques used to make candles from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Be a Bee program; No bumbling around here!  Learn about the journey bees undertake and the perils they encounter while pollinating flowers to ensure a bountiful harvest from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
