I started this job in 1999. Since that time, the one name I have heard over and over is Bob McConnell.
Bob McConnell has worked tirelessly with Natural Tunnel State Park and the Daniel Boone Wilderness Road Trail Association. Over the years, he has worked countless hours to bring the history and story of Daniel Boone to the public. He was instrumental in the building of the Blockhouse at Natural Tunnel State Park. This is a replica of a 1700’s blockhouse which helps visitors touch, smell, and feel what life was like on the Wilderness Road Trail.

When I saw the article "Unsung Heroes: Bob McConnell has established 'a living legacy'" about Bob McConnell a smile immediately came to my face. For all the work he has done for us here at Virginia State Parks and in Southwest Virginia as a whole, he certainly deserves to be recognized. If it weren't for volunteers like Bob McConnell, Virginia State Parks would not be complete.
