Kids grab your fishing pole!
Belle Isle State Park is hosting the Kids' Croaker Classic fishing tournament
Open to Ages 3 to 15 years old
As part of a summer packed full of fun kids' programs, Belle Isle State Park is hosting the 2014 Kids' Croaker Classic fishing tournament on Saturday May 31, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tournament is open to children ages 3 to 15. Parental supervision is required, but kids win the prizes!
Children must have adult supervisor to fish in the tournament
Pre-registration is required for the tournament and in order to be guaranteed a T-shirt, registration forms must be received by the park by May 17, 2014. Registration fee is $10 per person. Click here for registration form and tournament rules. Make checks payable to Treasurer of Virginia.
There are two age categories: 3-9 years old and 10-15 years old and two divisions: shore fishing and boat fishing. Participants in the shore division can fish from the fishing pier or picnic area beach. Participants in the boat division can fish anywhere in the river and creek, but all participants must be in line for weigh-in by 4 p.m
Kayak fishing has become very popular. You can rent one at Belle Isle's camp store.
Belle Isle State Park rents motorboats to adults who meet state boater safety requirements. For information on boater safety classes and requirements click here. Advanced reservations are recommended for boat rentals by calling (804) 462-5030. Canoes and kayaks are also available for rent.
If you bring your own watercraft, you can launch canoes and kayaks from the cartop launch area and motorized/trailed boats at the boat launch near the picnic area. The Belle Isle camp store stocks a variety of fishing equipment, bait, and refreshments if you need to stock up before or during the tournament.
Belle Isle State Park has a campground with water/electric hook ups and the Bel Air Historic area has two rental houses. To reserve overnight accommodations in the park, please call Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center at 1-800-933-PARK. Westmoreland State Park is located just 45 minutes away from Belle Isle State Park and also has campgrounds and full-service cabins.
