Everyone is invited out to Staunton River State Park for an evening of stargazing on Saturday, March 29, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society (CHAOS) will be holding their Staunton River Star Party in the park March 27 – 30. For Saturday night only the star party will be open to the public, weather permitting.

Ready for viewing, waiting on the night
The park is located in an area with very little light pollution. This provides an ideal location for the CHAOS astronomers who gather here with their telescopes for star parties each spring and fall. There will be presentations on viewing the heavens above as well as stations set up to see major planets, stars, and other celestial objects.
Visitors should dress warmly as the weather will probably be cool. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Parking will be at the pool parking lot adjacent to the Visitor Center, in order to keep car headlights off the viewing area. There will be a short walk to the observing field beside the Visitor Center.

The public viewing night on March 29th is free of charge.
There is a fee to participate in the entire star party and pre-registration is required. For more information on attending the entire festival click here. For an earlier blog article with more pictures and details click here.
