Are you and your family concerned about the environment? Want to start or step up recycling efforts at home? Want to start composting your kitchen scraps? How about make your own environmentally-friendly cleaners? Holliday Lake State Park has got a series of programs for you!
We'll kick off the series with a special Earth Day program on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. The April program is all about how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
We'll give you tips on starting a recycling program at home or if you already do that, we'll suggest ways you can step things up a bit. We have all kinds of clever ways to reuse common items that often end up in our landfills. Of course, we'll talk about simply reducing your household waste too.
The "It's Easy Being Green" Series runs from April to October (one program each month).
Each program will give you a better understanding of how to help keep the environment a healthy place for you, the people and wildlife around you. Other topics covered will include composting; water conservation; earth friendly cleaners & cosmetics; reducing your footprint; forestry; and wildlife/fisheries/ecology. We know you'll want to get the whole family involved, so kids are welcome with an adult. While most programs are free, some will have a small fee for supplies. Space is limited and you'll need to call the park at 434-248-6308 to sign up.
We encourage you to attend as many programs as you can. After attending five programs, you will recieve a gift certificate for a guided canoe tour or one-hour boat rental (your choice).
