Maybe you haven't been to Mason Neck State Park but it is truly a special place. Nestled in the heart of what I think is one of the most populated and stressful areas to live in, northern Virginia, Mason Neck is an oasis. After you brave the traffic to get there, you will not be able to imagine that this refuge for peace, quiet and nature could possibly be in the midst of all that chaos.

Mason Neck needs your help. I have written before about Coca-Cola's America is Your Park contest that will donate a nice chunk of change to 3 lucky parks. My boss, Joe Elton, wrote a great article in the Huffington Post on this opportunity (click here). Mason Neck is in 7th place and is our only park in sight of the top three. We need your help to put us over the top and the help needs to be more than one vote.
So, as politicians have joked for years, "Vote early and Vote Often."
We have had a very loyal group of supporters that have done the heavy lifting to get us this far. I received a reminder note just this evening from one of them. She doesn't even live in Virginia! But these folks think Mason Neck is special and they have put their fingers where their love is! Won't you do that too?
One of these great supporters has created detailed, easy to follow instructions. I know the FourSquare instructions seem complicated but every time you check in, it's 100 votes!
I am making a promise - if Mason Neck finishes in the top 3, I promise we will have a Thank You Day with free parking for anyone who wants to come visit!

There are 3 ways to vote for Mason Neck online that are worth either 100 points or 1 point. You can also vote from your cell phone.

We found the easiest way to vote from this link is to click the Leaderboard tab...type Mason Neck in the search box, click go, click on Mason Neck and vote.

(3) For the 100 point 4Square "check in" votes...navigate to https://foursquare.com/mobile/checkin
LIMITS...You may vote once every 15 minutes but only 3 times per hour and 28 times per day.
ATTENTION FIRST TIME 4SQUARE VOTERS...please follow the instructions below to set up your foursquare account and link it to Coca-Cola to start earning 100 points per checkin.
Foursquare Voting - Getting Started
1. Click on this link: https://apps.facebook.com/coca-colaparks/
2. Click on "Foursquare Check in"
3. Click on "sign up"
4. Sign up with your email address, not Facebook (you may have to go "full screen" to see the entire page)
5. Put LORTON, VA as your current city
6. Click on "join"
7. Click on "skip this step"
8. Click on "ok, I'm done"
9. Click on "continue to home page"
10. Click on "Connect With America Is Your Park"
11. Click on "allow"
12. Now when you click on "foursquare checkin" again on the overview page, you will see a message underneath it that says "you have already allowed this app" - this means you're all set to vote!
13. Now click on this link: https://foursquare.com/mobile/leaderboard
14. Up pops a window that should show you in Lorton, VA!
15. Click on "check in"
16. Type "Mason Neck" into the box and hit "check in"
17. Click on either Mason Neck
18. Don't add a shout
19. In drop down box, select "hide my location"
20. Click on checkin button one more time and you've now cast 100 votes!

Additional Information.....................
To view your "check in" vote history...https://foursquare.com/
Top right, under your name, click on history and you will be able to view the time of your check in votes.
This will help you keep track of your voting times so you don't vote early and lose the points.
Please note that points don't always show up immediately (sometimes 4Square runs a little slow) and not every vote will earn 100 points. All attempts to vote are counted though....meaning that if you vote early...you will not get points but it will count as a vote.
The one point votes are still very important to our total score!! There is no limit for the 1 point votes. Please vote as much and as often as you possibly can.

Are your 4Square votes counting? Here's a way to make sure your Foursquare account and Coke are linked. Navigate to https://foursquare.com/settings/connections and you should see "America Is Your Park" under Authorized services. That means your votes are being counted!!
The Leaderboard
There is a "Leaderboard" tab or link on each Coca-Cola voting page (but not on the 4Square page). You'll need to refresh that page to view the most recent score. Each time you click the Leaderboard tab it will refresh...giving you the most recent score.
Leaderboard Tip: Want to watch your votes add to the total score? This is how you do it!! Get your 4Square vote page ready to click the final "check in" button to vote (but don't click it yet). Then...in a separate window...open the Leaderboard and note the total votes for Mason Neck. Then quickly go back to the 4Square voting page and click "Check in"...now if you go quickly back to the Leaderboard and refresh it...you will probably see an increase of at least 100 points. Getting started can be a little confusing but once you catch on you'll be surprised how fast you will be able to do this!! Thanks for helping!!!
