“Strokes, Strings, Strides and Sticks” is the 2012 Junior Ranger program at Bear Creek Lake State Park, for youths ages 9 to 16.
We’ll explore the world of canoeing, fishing, hiking and archery. Each of those recreational activities will be complemented with other programs such as Wilderness Skills, Distance Estimating, Aquatic Habitats and Leave No Trace. Participants will come to understand our part of Virginia and our relationship with other species a little bit better. They’ll engage in recreation and conservation.
Canoeing on Bear Creek Lake is just one of many activities planned for the
2012 Junior Ranger Program.
This three-day program will be held July 9, 10 and 11, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. The final day will also feature a graduation ceremony for those who have attended at least two full days, and they will receive a Junior Ranger certificate and patch.
Participants will come to understand aquatic habitats a little bit better.

Participants will learn the skill of archery.
The park is located about 4.5 miles northwest of the town of Cumberland. From U.S. Route 60, go west on Route 622 and south on Route 629 to the park entrance.
