150th Civil War History Mobile Visits Westmoreland for 4th of July

Westmoreland State Park is hosting a special guest right on time for the 4th of July! The 150th Civil War History Mobile is making way around the state, with stops far and few in between.

Experience this immersive high-tech "museum on wheels" whether you're a history buff or not! The History Mobile is appealing to visitors of all ages, including young children. The History Mobile will setup near the visitor center on July 3-5, 2012. The exhibit will be open July 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on July 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Civil War History Mobile details Virginia’s incomparable place in history throughout the 1860’s. The History Mobile shares a unique interactive experience, as visitors are invited to look into the lives of real people- young and old, enslaved and free, soldiers and civilians. Read letters and hear conversations from those looking to flee to freedom, watch a film that examine's Virginia's decision to secede, then explore the impact of the War that ended slavery.

The Civil War History Mobile was designed through a partnership between the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission, the Virginia Historical Society, and the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania National Battlefields Park. The History Mobile is also supported by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Virginia Tourism Corporation.  Visitors can obtain information on visiting Virginia Civil War sites at the exhibit.

Virginia State Parks will host the History Mobile at different locations across the state now through 2015. Its next stop at a one of our parks in the Northern Virginia area is Leesylvania State Park on October 4, 2012.

*The History Mobile is a free event, however parking is $4 per day. Bring the whole family!
