Fire, hammers, and anvils will be in full swing during educational demonstrations.   See guild members wielding their hammers to forge beautiful artisan crafts.  Blacksmithing is used to create functional as well as decorative steel work.  Items handcrafted will be available for purchase.

The blacksmiths will be using Sky Meadows State Park’s historic forge that guild members repaired this past winter.

BGOP is a nonprofit educational organization and an affiliate of the Artist Blacksmith's Association of North America (ABANA).  They are located in Northern Virginia and serve members living in the Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland area, stretching into Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

BGOP was formed through the vision and efforts of H. Eugene Montgomery in August of 1979 to preserve an American cultural tradition, the artistry and craftsmanship in working hot steel.  Today, the guild has more than 250 members and is still growing.

During the Great American Backyard Campout on June 23 Sky Meadows State Park will be hosting various programs, activities, and demonstrations including the Blacksmiths throughout the day and into the evening for campers.
