Chippokes Plantation State Park Steam & Gas Engine Show merges with Pork, Peanut and Pine Festival July 21-22, 2012

(SURRY, VA) – Originally scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2012, the Chippokes Plantation State Park Steam & Gas Engine Show has merged with the Pork, Peanut and Pine Festival.

The Steam & Gas Engine Show will no longer be held in June. All events will take place July 21-22 at the Pork, Peanut and Pine Festival featuring the Steam & Gas Engine Show.

The two-day festival at Chippokes Plantation State Park celebrates the region’s rich agricultural heritage with a BBQ cook-off, live music, artisan crafters, antique tractor pulls, sawmill demonstrations and children’s activities.

Tickets are $5. Children 10 and younger are free.  Ticket includes admission to the festival, parking and tram rides.

“The merger of these two great events means that visitors will get to see a working timeline of the area’s agricultural history from the plantation era at the Jones-Stewart Mansion to turn-of-the-century machines and tools on display at the Farm & Forestry Museum,” said Bill Jacobs, Chippokes Plantation State Park manager.

Festival organizers are still taking applications for artisan crafters and festival sponsors. Event, vendor and sponsor applications and information can be found at www.porkpeanutpinefestival.org.

The award-winning Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
