Virginia State Parks

Time spent together is never wasted

I recently heard a quote by the Virginia State Parks Field Operations Manager, Craig Seaver, “You never know the true value of a moment until it is a memory.”

For my family, Virginia’s state parks have been a constant.  The girls have never known a time when Hungry Mother State Park was not in their life.  In fact, two of the three girls actually lived in the park during their childhood.  So, it didn’t really surprise me that the park is where our 19 year old wanted to go on her first weekend home from college.

She and her daddy took off (with our dog) to Molly’s Knob in the park.  Molly’s Knob is one of the most popular but strenuous trails at Hungry Mother.  But a hike is never too strenuous to take pictures (it is a wonderful excuse to stop and get your breath too).  The afternoon was a get way for the two to reconnect after her first year away from home.  What a way to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Hiking is great way to spend time together.
Time spent together is never wasted!

The view makes the hike worth while
And the view is unbelievable...

When my husband and I were engaged, we took our soon to be "blended" family to Hungry Mother State Park for our first attempt at bringing together our three girls. He has two and I have one. One morning we decided to take the oldest daughter for a hike on Molly's Knob. We did the entire trail and the views were magnificent. More importantly I was able to start that relationship with the oldest daughter that I hold dear twenty-one years later. Thank you Hungry Mother State Park for a memory we'll never forget!

Time spent together is never wasted! This weekend my wife, mid 20's daughter, and I traveled from VAB to Douthat to spend the day at the Apple Festival. Well worth every minute from the hayride, to GREAT Brunswick Stew and they served it in a Mason Jar, what a good idea. The local crafts people had great wares, we brought home some of their creations, and watching the slow making of apple butter was educational. Thanks for the moments spend together and the icing on the cake was part of our trip home on Sunday across the Blue Ridge Parkway. The changing of colors is magic.
