Continuing education is important to all teachers and when that education correlates with the Virginia SOLs, that’s even better!
Here’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss. Virginia State Parks and Project WET are partnering to present a FREE workshop for elementary school teachers in Appomattox, Bedford, Buckingham, Chesterfield and Cumberland Counties.
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at James River State Park's Visitor Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The professional development workshop is designed to train teachers, so they can take the information back to their classrooms. The morning will consist of Project WET learning activities including: a close-up look at thunderstorms; a fun activity to estimate the percentage of earth’s surface that is covered by water; and simulating the movement of water within the water cycle. In the afternoon, the focus will be on using the Virginia State Park’s “Your Backyard Classrooms” curriculum. Topics will include: a wetland in a pan; food preferences and feeding strategies of animals; wildlife watershed habitats; and bats and how they use echolocation.
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at James River State Park's Visitor Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Each teacher will leave the workshop with a Virginia State Park’s “Your Backyard Classrooms” Activities Binder and a Project WET Sampler Activity Book at no cost. All teachers who participate in the 6-hour workshop will receive a certificate of completion. The workshop is limited and advance registration is required.
