Build a bird or bath house at Sky Meadows State Park

Bat houses and avian nesting boxes are important to the survival of our native bats and cavity-nesting birds.  Human activity has impacted the ability of many species to find natural resting and breeding places.  By providing safe shelters, built to the proper specifications, we can help to mitigate our disruptive activities and do our part to help bats and birds thrive.

Sky Meadows State Park's workshop is limited to 15 participants, and advanced registration is required.  There is a $15.00 fee for this workshop, which covers all materials.  The fee allows one adult or an adult/child combination to construct one house.  When making reservation, please indicate which house you would like to construct.  Registration and payment deadline is September 23.  To reserve your spot, please call Sky Meadows State Park at 540-592-3556.

LOCATION: Sky Meadows State Park is less than two miles south of Paris, VA, via U.S. Route 50 to Route 17 South; or seven miles north of I-66, Exit 23 on Route 17 North. The park entrance is on State Route 710.

Drive Time: Northern Virginia, 45 minutes to one hour; D.C., over one hour; Richmond, two hours; Tidewater/ Norfolk/ Virginia Beach, three hours; Roanoke, two and a half hours
