Night Moves

Submitted by Cameron Swain, Asst. Manager, False Cape State Park

Beat the Heat at False Cape State Park with some "Night Moves."

A symphony of frogs, crickets, and birds can be heard at nightfall on Back Bay!

If the afternoon heat of summer has you trapped inside all day try a moonlight or starlight kayak paddle!  Although paddling at night may sound a little intimidating to those who are novice kayakers, it’s actually a great way to get three outdoor experiences in one!

Back Bay is great for kayaking!

Not only will you be able to explore the marshes of False Cape State Park, you’ll be able to hear some of our nocturnal and crepuscular critters, and you’ll be amazed by the illumination the stars and moon provide while out on the bay.  After a brief kayaking lesson, you’ll be able to explore the bay and learn about prominent constellations in the night sky.

Kayaks and equipment are provided and trips depart from Little Island City Park. For reservations please call (757) 426-7128. Cost is $16/person.

Beginners are welcome. Training and equipment are provided for this program!

Starlight Paddling Program will be offered on September 23, 2011 from 7 to 11 p.m.
Moonlight Paddling Programs will be offered on September 9, 10, 11, 17 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
