Victorian-style afternoon tea is appealing both to palate and spirit. More than just an aromatic pot of tea and delectable finger food, afternoon tea is a vacation from our hectic lives - a chance to talk and relax in a romantic Victorian setting.
Sunday May 23, 2010, the Friends of Caledon Natural Area will host an afternoon Victorian Tea off-site on the lawns of Rokeby, a stately federal King George landmark whose hilltop views pan over the rural green of the Rappahannock Valley. It will be a grand afternoon completing the tea with Queen Victoria's favorite dessert, Cherries Jubilee. The tea starts at 2 pm and ends at 4 pm. A rare private tour of Rokeby house will be offered to participants along with a Victorian era fashion show and a silent auction. All proceeds from this event will be used to build a pond along side the new accessible trail at Caledon to bring a small part of the wetland and river to visitors who wouldn't otherwise be able to reach them.
The cost for the tea is $25 per person and reservations are required. To make a reservation please call or e-mail friends president, Laurie Schlemm at (540) 775-3472 or lschlemm3@msn.com.
