Earth Day Celebration at Holliday Lake State Park

On Saturday, April 24, 2010, Holliday Lake State Park celebrated Earth Day with a special tree planting ceremony. The trees were sponsored by Odwalla. Four volunteers helped park staff plant nine trees. We planted red buds and dogwoods. Some of the trees will provide much needed shade for our beach area in a few years. Others will add some beautiful spring color to our amphitheater area. Conservation Intern, Sharon Grove, and Grounds Worker, Bobby Hudgins, helped with the tree placement and making sure our volunteers had everything for the job.

Geocaching at James River State Park Jaimie Lomasney, Visitor Services Specialist What is “game of high-tech hide and seek?"	The Wilderness Trail Institute Megan France Mountain Empire Community College in conjunction with the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association and Natural Tunnel State Park will be offering the Wilderness Trail Institute. The course will focus on the history of the Wilderness Trail.
Linus in Candyland Genevieve White, Park Interpreter Leesylvania State Park On February 11th between 11:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. at Leesylvania State Park come spend some time with Linus in Candyland as we turn fleece material in to blankets with only a pair of scissors.

"The Wildlife Management areas are managed by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. What you heard is incorrect. Here is info about the change: Facility Use Permit Effective January 1, 2012, a Facility Use Permit will be required when using any Department-owned Wildlife Management Area or Fishing Lake. Such permit shall not be required for any person holding a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license or a current certificate of boat registration issued by the Department or persons…"

"I was there too with my sister and one of her friends from work. It was a great day. We walked the trail and the hills were quite intense. But we all finished an it was really fun for the first one. "
