False Cape Wilderness Survival Skills

Join wild foods enthusiast and park interpreter, Vicky Shufer, for a journey through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge to False Cape State Park's interior on Saturday, April 3 from 1pm-5pm.

During this survival skills seminar, you will find out which plants are fiber plants for rope-making, how to find and make shelter to withstand cold and wind, how to start a fire without matches, and which wild foods are edible.

Cost is $10/person. Registration is required by call False Cape State Park at 757-426-7128. Please be mindful of forecasted weather and dress appropriately. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug repellant.

"The Wildlife Management areas are managed by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. What you heard is incorrect. Here is info about the change: Facility Use Permit Effective January 1, 2012, a Facility Use Permit will be required when using any Department-owned Wildlife Management Area or Fishing Lake. Such permit shall not be required for any person holding a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license or a current certificate of boat registration issued by the Department or persons…"
