Douthat State Park Ornament Making Contest

Douthat State Park is offering an ornament making contest for students through Monday, December 14, 2009.

Area school students, 4-H club members, church groups and scouts are invited to compete in an event in which contestants make ornaments out of natural or recycled materials.

Participate through your school or send something individually.  Ornaments must be made of natural materials or by recyclable items.

Drop off your ornament at Douthat State Park by 4 p.m. on December 14 with an entry form.

Ornaments are judged, and prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place winners. Schools and teachers may also contact the park for a reduce, reuse, recycle outreach program for their students to go along with contest participation.

Ornaments will not be returned unless arrangements are made prior to December 14.

For further information please contact Chief Ranger of Interpretation and Education Beth Hawse at 540-862-8100 or douthatinterpreter@dcr.virginia.gov.
