From the waterfowl and wading birds of the Eastern Shore to the abundance of warbler species that pass through the Blue Ridge Mountains each spring and fall, Virginia is a bird watchers paradise! In addition, you'll find dozens of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insect species waiting to be discovered, photographed, and enjoyed. While an abundance of wildlife can be found in the many state and national parks and forests, birders especially will want to check out the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail that contains dozens of locations and miles of nature hikes spread throughout the state for you to enjoy.

"When my husband and I were engaged, we took our soon to be "blended" family to Hungry Mother State Park for our first attempt at bringing together our three girls. He has two and I have one. One morning we decided to take the oldest daughter for a hike on Molly's Knob. We did the entire trail and the views were magnificent. More importantly I was able to start that relationship with the oldest daughter that I hold dear twenty-one years later. Thank you Hungry Mother State Park for a memory we'll…"
