Virginia is full of special events throughout the year. These events include anything from music concerts and competitions to reenactments and much more. Special events happening in your area are listed below.

Twin Lakes State Park Hosts Lecture Series for Black History Month Zoe Rogers, Visitor Services Specialist On Saturday, February 11, 2012 Twin Lakes State Park will host a lecture series on the African-American Civilian Conservation Corps and African-American soldiers during the American Civil War.	Linus in Candyland Genevieve White, Park Interpreter Leesylvania State Park On February 11th between 11:00a.m. – 3:00p.m. at Leesylvania State Park come spend some time with Linus in Candyland as we turn fleece material in to blankets with only a pair of scissors.
Twin Lakes State Park Hosts a Special ‘Valentines for Soldiers’ Event! Carley York, Educational Support Specialist On Saturday, February 4th you'll have the opportunity to decorate Valentine's for home bound soldiers.	Book Your Site Early for OpSail 2012 Staci R. Great Backyard Bird Count at Hungry Mother State Park Shellie Anne Join us as we count the birds at Hungry Mother State Park on February 18th, 2012 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.	Scholars Train for Envirothon Johanna Petrosky, Visitor Service Specialist Westmoreland is training students for the Canon Environthon, North America's largest high school environmental education competition.
Care Packages for Soldiers Sarah Percival, Chief Ranger Leesylvania State Park On January 14th, Leesylvania State Park held an event to make care packages for soldiers to show our appreciation for all that they do.	Strawberry Jam to be at the Southwest Virginia Museum Aaron Davis The First Saturday Community Coffeehouse will be held at the Southwest Virginia Museum. Strawberry Jam will host the event in February.
Popular Dinner Theatre Returns to WRSP Mike Brindle, who portrays Miles the butler! The popular Mystery Dinner Theatre production, Just Kill Me Now, (Aw, Shoot) returns to Wilderness Road State Park for four exciting and suspenseful performances in February.	Parks Commemorate MLK Jr Day of Service Pat Eastwood, Visitor Services Specialist Monday January 16 will be "A Day On, Not a Day Off!" with service and outreach projects throughout the state.

"The Wildlife Management areas are managed by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. What you heard is incorrect. Here is info about the change: Facility Use Permit Effective January 1, 2012, a Facility Use Permit will be required when using any Department-owned Wildlife Management Area or Fishing Lake. Such permit shall not be required for any person holding a valid hunting, fishing or trapping license or a current certificate of boat registration issued by the Department or persons…"
